Halfway

We reached the halfway point in our journey today and wanted to put up a quick post tonight to celebrate the halfway point which happens to be Florence.

Yesterday was our last day in Cortona, we went for one more nice him walk, down the hill and then back up through some olive groves.

And then another sunset walk before dinner.

This morning we got up, packed up, stopped for a quick espresso, and then hopped on the train to Florence.

A fun little story about it espressos. This cafe is just outside of Cortona, it's owned by the Vannelli family. One of the sons, James Vannelli, is three time Italian barista champion (tied for the most wins ever). And he happened to be pulling our espressos this morning. They were pretty good :)

We're only here for 2 days, but this represents the middle of our trip. After that we're going to Lucca for 2 weeks, and then making our way north by train until we end up in Amsterdam eventually. Florence is as beautiful as we remembered it, but much busier than the last time we were here. Which was 14 years ago for our honeymoon.

When we were here last our favorite meal was a little trattoria that's run out the back of a very fancy restaurant. So we went back again tonight, almost exactly 14 years to the day.

We even ordered the same thing, Papa al Pomodoro, or bread and tomato soup. Like so many other things in life, it's simple but good :)

Hope everyone is doing well and enjoying the last days of summer and the last fruits of the season, wherever you are!

  1. Why does all the scenery look so comfortable and comforting. By Vanessa's smile I can tell it must be!
